Past 2 days…

In the past two days i have continued to edit my FMP. When i exported my rough edit music documentary, i showed in to a couple of students for a quick review. The feedback was mostley positive however, some things were sugested that could of been altered. For example, the names of the band members i had missed out, or the name of the actual band i had missed out or the audio levels need to be readjusted. For each of these alterations, i tested and exported to see how it would look when shown in the final piece.
These reviews were helpful, and abled me to create a higher quality end product.

All i have left to do is evaluate my project which i will be commencing today and tomorrow.

Past 3 days…

In the last 3 days i have spent altogether roughly 15 hours completing my FMP, and it is actually nearly there. The reason i have spent the last 3 days working my socks off is because of my poor time management skills and poor motivation skills, but i’ll leave that to the evaluation.

04/06/10
-On the Friday i continued to edit my final production, which from the beginning of that day i had 25 seconds of. But when i finished i had roughly 1 & a half minutes worth which i am pleased with. I also created i time lapse of a documentary which i will reference in my FMP, but you can view here if you like.
-Another part of editing that i had looked at what the audio side. I used Audacity but mainly WavePad (below) which is avery nice software when it comes to editing sound. I mainly used it to get rid of the background noise caused in the interview which was again helped by another tutorial on Youtube.

-In order for me to edit the audio however i used a video converter (left) to convert the video files to audio, which i could then edit it in WavePad. This software was also useful for compressing footage.

05/06/10
The next day and it was more of the same as before. I carried on editing my final piece with WavePad and Sony Vegas till i achieved the the 4 minute mark. My project was making some progress but still had a bit to do.

06/06/10
The Sunday came along and which i was hoping to finish my editing. However, it took longer than expected and i only got up to 5:40 of my final piece. Though i am looking to finish it off today & make amendments tomorrow (if i have too) & also on Weds/Thurs because the class are reviewing FMPs on the Wednesday. I have also exported the 5:40 rough edit of my FMP so far which you can also have a look at.

Overall i feel i have made significant progress, however this should of been done a long time ago.
I will update later on tonight.

Today i have received some images of the band that i can use in my final production. it took me a while but i got them in the end.
I’ve also continued editing my documentary, and now have pretty much completed the introduction with audio so i might post that up sometime. For the rest of the week, i am going to continue to edit my final piece and hopefully i will have completed it by the end of the week.

Today i have gone through all the video footage i have taken, and i have logged down what and when the footage has taken place. This makes the editing part a lot simpler as now i know where everything is.
For the interviews i have written down bullet points of what has been said at what time, which again makes it easier for me when i edit the footage. Click here to view my interview logs.

Also today i have organised my research, post-production and production forms, making it easier for me when i come to present my final product.

Capturing and compressing

On the Monday (24th May) i was able to capture some corrupted footage i thought had lost. The problem was that i tryed to capture the footage on a different camera from what was used to record the footage, which i have now realised – it isn’t very reliable.
Also today (26th May) i have compressed some test footage that was originally 1.5gb (.avi) to a much smaller size of around 2-4mb. I coverted it to both .wmv and .mpeg2 to see which was best for quality and size. Problems…

Last week i discovered that 2 DV tapes had been corrupted which means i will not be able to retrieve that footage. This has ultimately had to push back my planning schedule by re-scheduling another piece of filming that i will have to do.

Also throughout this project i have discovered that working with others isn’t always reliable and even though the group in my project have been great, sometimes it’s hard to track them down, find an agreement to where and when to meet up. All this adds up in time and can be a bit frustrating at times.

Rendering options

I tested some of my project last week and realised that a 15 second intro was 1.5GB in size (avi) which caused the video to lag and not play properly. Because of this i have recently started researching the rendering options/settings in Sony Vegas in order for me to get the best quality when testing and for my final piece.

Completed more editing on the saturday (8th May). Completed more on my introduction, only 10 or 15 seconds to complete. Also have writtin up an essay on documentary history and genres (completed 10th May).

21st April – Spent at leat 3 hours test editing some footage for the intro of my documentary. The edited footage is inspired by LPTV (Linkin Park TV) found on youtube. Their short dairy snippets inclued a 30 second introduction which i thought would really suit my kind of documentary.

Today i have captured the video footage i recorded earlier on this week onto my PC. Most of it was a success and the footage looked great. Some things didn’t go to plan however…for instance when i was capturing, one of the tapes wouldn’t play back properly and displayed an error message. This could be due to the tape not being clean. Another thing i did not check was the wide-screen setting on the cameras. I did not realise that some of the cameras were set up for wide-screen and some were not. This could lead to inconsistency and i need to be more careful in the future.

I also took some screen shots and pictures to evidence my work which you can see above.
